First details of the next Scarborough Coastival arts festival have been unveiled.
Coastival 2015 will be called ‘Back in Time with Coastival’ and will have as its theme a celebration of Scarborough’s musical heritage.
Some 54 events – 50 of them free - will be staged across 13 and 14 February.
Centrepiece will be ‘Reverberation’ a special music event at the Spa on Friday 13 February which will celebrate Scarborough’s musical history with both live and DJ music, as well as an exhibition of memorabilia.
Then on the evening of Saturday 14 February, there will be ‘Timeless’, a welcome return for some of Coastival’s favourite musicians who have performed at previous Coastival events.
During the rest of the festival there will be a mix of music, dance, visual arts, exhibitions and activities for children and young people in Rollercoastival.
Last month Coastival announced that it had secured Arts Council funding to stage Coastival in 2016. In keeping with tradition, Coastival 2015 will be a ‘mini’ Coastival and the full three-day event will return in 2016.
Coastival’s organisers, Scarborough-based arts development agency Create, say Coastival 2015 will celebrate the past and also lay foundations for the future.
Director Wendy Holroyd said: 'Scarborough has a very rich musical heritage, with venues like the Penthouse, the Stage Door, The Talbot and LT’s, as well as the Futurist, holding a special place in the hearts of local music lovers.'
